What makes a good children's book title
A children's book title is the first promise of the story. It has to be simple enough for the youngest readers to remember and vivid enough for a parent to pick it off the shelf. Think of The Very Hungry Caterpillar or Where the Wild Things Are: short, concrete, and they paint a picture straight away.
Younger readers like rhythm, rhyme and repetition. Older readers like a hint of mystery, a funny contrast, or a name they can follow through a series.
Titles matched to age and theme
The generator changes its language for each age group, keeps your theme in every title, and varies the forms: a character's name, a question, a promise of adventure. Each title comes with a hook, so you can see the story it suggests.
Once your story has a title, you can check it with the free Story Analyzer, or turn it into a narrated video with LongStories.
How to use it
- 1
Choose the reader age
Board book, ages 3 to 5, 6 to 8, or 9 to 12. The age changes the words and the length.
- 2
Describe the story
One line is enough, for example 'a shy owl who is afraid of the dark'. Add a tone if you want one.
- 3
Pick your favourite
Copy the titles you like, or change the tone and run it again for more.
